Cross Creek
Cross Creek Center is a 12,000 sq. ft. shopping center in a small, semi-rural community swelled by summer beachgoers and weekend tourists. The .7 acre site under a grove of trees offered the opportunity to create a "town square" with a small amphitheater, picnic tables and boutique pavilions around a brick paved parking
parking lot. The building's forms and materials reflect the rural environment situated between the mountains and ocean.
In the center, Malibu Art & Design is a contemporary general store and art gallery featuring articles selected for their design quality as well as their function. The gallery co-exists with the store where the art relates comfortably with woven hammocks, Caribbean musical instruments and even the can openers.
The architect functioned as designer, developer and contractor.
