Sea Ranch Way 1

The rural two-acre site slopes gently to a ravine with the ocean beyond. Mountain, water, and canyon views are in all directions. In response to this setting, the house was conceived as a clustering of pavilions which one could walk through while continuing to experience this outdoor environment.

The horizontal profile and low scale blends with the slope of the hill. The 3,000-square-foot house is organized around a central circulation spine separating sleeping and living areas. At the four corners, walls are angled to maximize mountain and ocean views, while the use of wood sliding, trellises, and brick paving indoors and out complement the rural environment and reinforce the tie of interior to exterior.
